A FOREIGN LAND
British born South African photographer Alastair Whitton’s photo narrative A FOREIGN LAND, published by FOTO|BLACK BOX, is essentially a portrait of his hometown of Cape Town, a city with a complex history. These images consider the mechanisms of memory and the mapping of geographies in a Post-Apartheid democratic South Africa. Through the lens Whitton explores what he refers to as ‘the architecture of time and the poetics of place’. This limited edition publication includes an introduction by celebrated artist Marlene Dumas and an essay by South African writer Alexandra Dodd, author of ‘David Goldblatt: The Last Interview’ (Steidl Verlag, 2019).
